The 2am Lie...

The 2am Lie...

There's a voice that only shows up at night.

You know the one. It waits until you're tired, until your defences are down, until everyone else is asleep and you're alone with your thoughts. Then it starts.

"You're not doing enough."
"Everyone else has it figured out."
"God is disappointed in you."
"You're falling behind."

It sounds like your own voice. That's what makes it so convincing.

But here's what I want you to understand today.

"For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind." - 2 Timothy 1:7

Read that last part again. A sound mind.

That voice at 2am? The one cataloguing your failures and replaying your worst moments on a loop? That is not a sound mind. And if it's not from God, you need to stop treating it like truth.

I spent years believing that the anxious voice was just me being "realistic." I thought worrying meant I was being responsible. I thought the guilt meant I was being humble. But there's nothing humble about agreeing with a voice that contradicts what God has already said about you.

God says you are loved. The voice says you're not enough.
God says his mercies are new every morning. The voice says you've used up your chances.
God says he has plans to give you hope and a future. The voice says it's too late.

One of them is lying. And it's not God.

The next time that voice shows up, and it will, try something. Don't argue with it. Don't try to reason your way out of it. Just speak scripture over it. Out loud if you can.

There is something that shifts in the atmosphere when you say God's word out loud in a dark room. The lies lose their power when you stop whispering and start declaring.

You don't have to shout. You just have to mean it.

"God has not given me a spirit of fear." Say it once. Say it again. Say it until your heartbeat slows down and the knot in your chest loosens.

That's not positive thinking. That's spiritual warfare. And you're more equipped for it than you realise.

YOUR ONE THING FOR TODAY

Write 2 Timothy 1:7 on a piece of paper or a sticky note and put it on your bedside table. Tonight, if the voice comes, don't reach for your phone. Reach for the verse. Read it out loud.

It will feel strange the first time. Do it anyway.

A PRAYER FOR TODAY

God, I'm tired of listening to voices that aren't yours. I'm tired of lying awake rehearsing my failures when you've already told me I'm forgiven. Give me the courage to speak your truth over the lies tonight. Replace my fear with your peace. Guard my mind while I sleep. I trust you with the things I can't figure out on my own. Amen.

God bless you, my friend.
