There's a prayer that most Christians avoid. Not because they don't know it, but because they're terrified of what it means.

Three words. "Not my will."

That's it. Three words that will rearrange your entire life if you actually mean them.

Jesus prayed them the night before he died. He was in a garden, sweating blood, surrounded by sleeping friends, staring down the worst thing that could possibly happen to him.

And he said this.

*"Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me. Yet not my will, but yours be done." - Luke 22:42*

Read that carefully.

Jesus didn't pretend he wanted the cross. He asked for another way. He was honest about not wanting the pain. But then he surrendered. Not because it felt good. Not because he understood the plan. But because he trusted his Father more than he trusted his own comfort.

That's the prayer most of us skip.

We'll pray "God, bless my plans." We'll pray "God, open this door." We'll pray "God, make this work out the way I want." But we won't pray "not my will."

Because that means giving up control. And if we're being honest, control is the thing we worship more than almost anything.

I've been there. I've gripped my plans so tightly that my knuckles turned white. I've told God what I needed and then panicked when he didn't deliver it on my timeline. I've mistaken my anxiety for prayer, my planning for faith, and my stubbornness for perseverance.

But here's what I've learned the hard way. The things I surrendered always turned out better than the things I forced.

Not always easier. Not always faster. But better. Because God's version of better includes things I can't see yet.

Surrender isn't giving up. It's letting go of the steering wheel and trusting that the person who made the road knows where it leads.

You don't have to understand the plan to trust the Planner.

**YOUR ONE THING FOR TODAY**

There's something you've been gripping tightly. A relationship. A job. A decision. A timeline. You know exactly what it is because it just popped into your head.

Today, pray this. "God, I give you \_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_. Not my will, but yours. I trust you with this even though I can't see what you're doing."

Say it out loud. Mean it even if it scares you. Then leave it there. Don't pick it back up tonight.

**A PRAYER FOR TODAY**

God, I'm scared to let go. You know that. I've been holding onto things that were never mine to carry and calling it responsibility. Today I'm choosing to trust you more than I trust my own plans. Not my will, but yours. I don't know what that looks like yet, but I believe you do. Help me to stop white knuckling my life and start resting in yours. Amen.

God bless you, my friend.
